NEW ZEALAND INJURY REPORT
India vs New Zealand – 5-Match ODI Series, November 2026
Date: 2 November 2026
New Zealand have suffered a major setback ahead of their five-match ODI series against India, with two key players, Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra, ruled out due to injuries.
1. MARK CHAPMAN – LEFT HAMSTRING INJURY
Status: Ruled out of the entire ODI series.
Mark Chapman is still recovering from a left hamstring injury sustained while playing in a T20 league in Europe last month. He subsequently missed New Zealand’s T20I series against India.
An MRI scan confirmed that Chapman requires another two weeks of rehabilitation before returning to competitive cricket.
Impact: His absence weakens New Zealand’s middle-order batting options and removes an experienced batter from the squad.
2. RACHIN RAVINDRA – RIGHT SHOULDER DISLOCATION
Status: Ruled out of the entire ODI series.
Rachin Ravindra suffered a right shoulder dislocation during a promotional shoot in September while attempting a diving catch.
Although he has made progress in his recovery, his shoulder has not recovered sufficiently for him to field comfortably in white-ball cricket.
New Zealand coach Rob Walter confirmed that the team does not want to take unnecessary risks with Ravindra, especially with the upcoming Test series against India.
Impact: Ravindra’s absence is a major blow as he provides value as both a top-order batter and a left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder.
3. SQUAD REPLACEMENTS
New Zealand have made the following squad adjustments:
- Tim Seifert will be available for all five ODIs.
- Henry Nicholls has been included for the first three ODIs (Games 1–3).
- Dean Foxcroft has been included for the final two ODIs (Games 4–5).
4. OVERALL IMPACT ON NEW ZEALAND
- Batting: The absence of Chapman and Ravindra reduces the team’s batting depth and middle-order flexibility.
- All-round options: Ravindra’s absence takes away an important batting and spin-bowling option.
- Squad depth: The inclusion of Nicholls, Foxcroft and Seifert provides additional alternatives.
- Upcoming Tests: New Zealand will be hoping both injured players recover fully ahead of the Test series.
5. FINAL ASSESSMENT
New Zealand face a significant challenge heading into the ODI series against India. Losing two established players will affect their batting depth and overall team balance.
While Chapman continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury, Ravindra is working towards recovering full shoulder function.
New Zealand will prioritise their recovery rather than rushing them back into action, particularly with the upcoming Test series also forming an important part of their international calendar.
