Pakistan are in Group A of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 and begin their campaign against Afghanistan at Centurion (Tshwane) on 8 October. They play five group games in all. A top-three finish in the group would send them into the Super 7 stage as the A3 seed.
Group A also has India, Australia, co-hosts Zimbabwe and Qualifier A, a team that will come through the opening Super Series in Windhoek.
Matches start at 10:00 AM local time, which is 1:00 PM in Pakistan and 1:30 PM in India.

Pakistan ODI Team: Form Before the World Cup
The Australia series:
Pakistan beat Australia 2-1 in a three-match ODI series at home in May and June 2026. Arafat Minhas was named Player of the Series, taking 7 wickets in 3 matches, including a five-wicket haul on his ODI debut. Pakistan may have found their all-rounder, and Shaheen Afridi was phenomenal as well.
The ODI tri-series:
After a difficult phase, Pakistan looked to be putting together a dream run. Hosting an ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and England in Rawalpindi, the Men in Green started strongly. They beat Sri Lanka by 37 runs on 18 October, with Salman Agha scoring a century, before defeating England by 87 runs on 20 October. Arafat Minhas starred with both bat and ball, taking 6/40 and scoring 59.
But it was the third ODI against England that gave fans a moment they would never forget.
When Razaullah fell in the 34th over, Pakistan needed another 88 runs to win with just one wicket remaining. Some fans had already started leaving the ground, and, let’s be honest, most of us thought an England victory was all but certain.
But one man refused to give up.
Shadab Khan!
Coming in at No. 8, Shadab broke Pakistan’s boundary drought, which had lasted 15.4 overs, and launched an extraordinary fightback with Haris Rauf as his partner. What followed was one of those unbelievable ODI finishes that reminds us why we love cricket. Against all odds, Pakistan found hope when the match seemed all but lost.
And then came the reality check.
After all that excitement, Pakistan’s final ODI against Sri Lanka ended in disappointment, with the team bowled out for just 110. What happened there? How could a side that looked so confident and dominant suddenly collapse so badly?
That is the biggest concern for Pakistan. Brilliant individual performances and memorable victories are great, but they need to turn those moments into consistent results. With major World Cups on the horizon, the Men in Green cannot afford to keep swinging between extraordinary highs and disappointing lows. The talent is clearly there; the real challenge is to deliver consistently when it matters most.
The England series:
Pakistan will play five ODIs in England from 15 to 26 May 2027. As things stand, it is the last ODI series scheduled before the World Cup. With only five matches, there is little room for practice, and Pakistan needs to evaluate and decide on their 15-member squad quickly. The board could add more series, but nothing has been decided yet.
The Pakistan ODI squad:
The Pakistan national cricket team squad of 15 for the World Cup has not been named yet. For now, the Pakistan ODI squad picture is built around Shaheen Afridi, Salman Agha and Minhas, who have all been in form this season.
In later blogs, we will analyse Pakistan’s World Cup match by match.
