IPL 2027 Released Players: 13 Shock Names Leaked Across 6 Teams!

IPL 2027 released players: reported names across six teams

Before every IPL auction come the retentions, and before the retentions comes the big question: who gets released? Reports have started leaking on six teams, and we’re going through every name, one by one.

For each player, we tell you the price he was bought at, whether releasing him is the right call, and how much money it frees up in the purse. (These are reported names, not official lists. Franchises haven’t confirmed anything.)

Let’s start with the team that could free up the most money.

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): Expected Releases

Three players are reportedly in line for release.

Player Price Role Our Take
Harshal Patel ₹8 Cr Pace bowler Release
Jaydev Unadkat ₹1 Cr Left-arm pacer Keep
Liam Livingstone ₹13 Cr Spin-bowling all-rounder Release

Harshal Patel (₹8 crore)

Releasing Harshal frees up ₹8 crore on its own, and we think it’s a very good decision. Someone like T Natarajan could come in for around ₹5 crore. SRH are already loading up their Indian pace attack with Sakib Hussain and Prafull Hinge, who were found last year. You can free up ₹8 crore, bring in an experienced Indian pacer, and still net about ₹3 crore. You can also buy Harshal back later, and we don’t think he’ll fetch ₹8 crore in this mini auction.

We did wonder whether this might be a year where Harshal fetches ₹8 crore again, since DC were paying that for Mukesh Kumar. But look at Nitish Kumar Reddy’s evolution as a bowler: he has reportedly pushed his pace up to around 140 kph. And Pat Cummins can bat down the order too. Harshal’s batting hasn’t contributed much, so the ā€œbowling all-rounderā€ idea doesn’t hold.

Jaydev Unadkat (₹1 crore)

People ask: if he’s ₹1 crore and sitting on the bench, what’s the harm? We think he’s very underrated. His cutters suit the Hyderabad highways, and his experience counts. If GT can keep Ishant Sharma, ₹1 crore for Unadkat is a decent buy.

A bench player is there for a reason, but Unadkat did start for SRH last year. SRH’s batting is the stronger department, and he can back up Sakib, who uses slower balls heavily. If Sakib isn’t fit, you have a same-profile replacement. You also shouldn’t put all your hopes on two youngsters. We don’t know how Natarajan will perform, or how much Cummins will play. Our call: keep him.

Liam Livingstone (₹13 crore)

His name had to come up. He was bought for ₹13 crore, but the moment the hammer fell, it was clear he wouldn’t stay at that price next year. He got that price because the auction dynamics that day were random: SRH had a big purse, nobody bid early, and then he went for ₹13 crore.

SRH have shown no faith in him, so ₹13 crore makes no sense. We feel Livingstone could add a lot as a spin-bowling all-rounder, but the franchise doesn’t seem to trust him.

SRH Total: ₹22 Crore Freed Up

That’s the highest of all six teams. SRH could use it to strengthen their all-round and spin departments.

2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB): Possible Releases

RCB are the two-time defending champions. Two names are reported.

Player Price Role Verdict
Romario Shepherd ₹1.5 Cr Fast-bowling all-rounder, power hitter Keep
Venkatesh Iyer ₹7 Cr Batting all-rounder Keep

Romario Shepherd (₹1.5 crore)

Shepherd came in at ₹1.5 crore and is a critical number-eight batter. He thrashed CSK that season. His bowling has been well below standard, but with the bat he’s dangerous, and when it truly matters he tends to deliver. A fast-bowling all-rounder and power hitter for ₹1.5 crore is not easy to replace, because very few players have that profile. His career is similar to Shivam Dube’s: he gets hit, then delivers on big occasions. Keep him.

Venkatesh Iyer (₹7 crore)

RCB bought Venkatesh at ₹7 crore, and his work last season was outstanding. He stepped in when some players were injured. He’s the king of the playoffs, and RCB keep reaching them.

The question is whether you’d keep a ₹7 crore player on the bench. If RCB feel their XI is sorted and they don’t need many purchases, keep him, because the mega auction is coming anyway.

RCB Total: ₹8.5 Crore Freed Up

That could make an already strong, generational team even better.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): Possible Releases

Given KKR’s performances, they could release many players, but only two names are coming up right now.

Player Price Role Verdict
Rovman Powell ₹1.5 Cr Pace-hitting all-rounder Release is fine
Tim Seifert ~₹1.5 Cr Opener / keeper Release makes sense

Rovman Powell (₹1.5 crore)

This is quite shocking. He was seen as a Russell-type all-rounder, but KKR barely have him bowl. Is KKR ready to let go of Andre Russell’s successor? We’re not totally against it. KKR’s four-overseas strategy will probably be reconsidered this year, depending on whether Cameron Green stays and whether Hardik Pandya comes in KKR. They need investment in the pace department.

Vaibhav Arora and Kartik Tyagi are promising, but they’re young, and you can’t hand them that much responsibility straight away. Harshit Rana’s form after injury is also unknown. KKR can’t copy SRH’s approach of scoring 250-300 and bowling Sakib and Prafull to defend it.

Powell also wouldn’t stay till the mega auction anyway. If there are five retentions (not confirmed), the list could look like Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana and Sunil Narine, and Powell wouldn’t make that cut.

Tim Seifert(₹1.5 crore)

We’ve seen Finn Allen get chances and perform. Between Allen and Seifert, Allen is the stronger player, with a higher ceiling. If KKR can’t get an opener like KL Rahul, Narine and Finn Allen opening together would be the best option. Add Cameron Green in the top four and it doesn’t look bad at all.

KKR need powerplay power, and Seifert took 36 balls to make 36 in the powerplay three or four times in a season.

KKR Total: ₹3 Crore Freed Up

This is the lowest of all six teams. For a team that badly needs reinforcements, ₹3 crore is very little. It also makes ā€œProject Hardikā€ very hard to imagine on that purse.

4. Punjab Kings (PBKS): Potential Releases

We said last season that Punjab’s squad was good enough to reach the final, and we predicted an RCB vs PBKS final. That’s exactly what happened. Let’s see what Shashank says this time.

Player Price Role Verdict
Marcus Stoinis ₹11 Cr All-rounder Mixed
Mitch Owen ₹3 Cr Power-hitting all-rounder Release

Marcus Stoinis (₹11 crore)

Stoinis is a late-30s all-rounder (34-35 at least). His batting was very underrated across both seasons, but the all-round contribution wasn’t there, and his bowling wasn’t what it needed to be.

The case for release: PBKS already rely on Indian finishers like Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh, with Marco Jansen at number eight and Cooper Connolly also in the squad. Stoinis could be surplus.

The case against: He’s a power hitter who can bat at number three, and he’s done it for LSG. The only reason Azmatullah Omarzai gets a nod over him is that Omarzai bowls in the powerplay. On batting alone, we’d take Stoinis any day. We also understand he has retired from T20 internationals for Australia, which means he should be available for the full season.

But ₹11 crore for a possible bench player is a lot, and his stock isn’t what it was. Punjab fans, tell us what you think.

Mitch Owen (₹3 crore)

This one makes sense. Players like Owen struggle to find a place in the XI and can’t even start.

PBKS Total: ₹14 Crore Freed Up

PBKS’ team is already sorted, so they can cut bench players and spend this well. They’re the team to watch at the auction.

5. Delhi Capitals (DC): Expected Releases

DC need more discussion than most teams.

Player Price Role Verdict
David Miller ₹2 Cr Finisher Surprising
Kyle Jamieson ~₹2 Cr* Pace bowler Release if options exist

David Miller (₹2 crore)

When Miller was bought at ₹2 crore, questions were raised, because he was considered a bit washed up after his time at GT. He also had a poor match against DC around the time he joined. We were surprised that he played so little, and now that he’s being released, we’re surprised again. Still, we understand the stage of his career: he may have only one cycle left. As a foreign player, he’s not that bad, so DC feel like they’re overdoing the experiments. They used to build a good squad and underperform, and now they’re even spoiling the squad.

DC do need reinforcements, especially in pace. With Natarajan and Starc uncertain, how many overs can you get from Chameera? And can Mukesh Kumar replicate his India form? We wouldn’t be surprised if DC chase a star opener to pair with KL Rahul. We have a feeling Delhi are heading for another messed-up season.

Kyle Jamieson

We say let Jamieson go, but the decision depends on the retention lists. Once every team’s list is out, you’ll know how many pacers are available at the auction. If there are enough options, let him go. If Starc’s confirmation doesn’t come, DC may need some backups.

DC Total: ₹4 Crore Freed Up

6. Gujarat Titans (GT): Possible Releases

Player Price Role Verdict
Shahrukh Khan ₹4 Cr Middle-order batter Release
Glenn Phillips ₹2 Cr Batter / spin-bowling all-rounder Debatable

Shahrukh Khan (₹4 crore)

We’re not surprised. GT genuinely need to sort their middle order. A backup option for ₹4 crore isn’t bad, but when he doesn’t perform, you have nothing to fall back on. GT have given him plenty of chances. Every year there’s hype around an Indian all-rounder who can bat in the middle order, and he’s never lived up to it. GT should move on, and KKR could look at him.

Glenn Phillips (₹2 crore)

Also not a surprise, though his form makes you wonder whether GT should think again. A spin-bowling option like Phillips would be great for KKR, and Eden Gardens would suit him. Players like him deserve to start for a team.

GT Total: ₹6 Crore Freed Up

Purse Impact: Expected Money Freed Up per Team

Team Players Reported Total Freed Up
SRH Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, Liam Livingstone ₹22 Cr (highest)
PBKS Marcus Stoinis, Mitch Owen ₹14 Cr
RCB Romario Shepherd, Venkatesh Iyer ₹8.5 Cr
GT Shahrukh Khan, Glenn Phillips ₹6 Cr
DC David Miller, Kyle Jamieson ₹4 Cr
KKR Rovman Powell, Tim Seifert ₹3 Cr (lowest)

FAQs

What are the LSG possible releases for IPL 2027?

LSG didn’t feature in the reports we covered, so no specific LSG names have leaked yet. The six teams with reported release names are SRH, RCB, KKR, PBKS, DC, and GT. We’ll update this post when reliable information on LSG comes in.

Which team will have the biggest purse after the IPL 2027 releases?

Sunrisers Hyderabad. If Harshal Patel (₹8 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (₹1 crore), and Liam Livingstone (₹13 crore) are all released, SRH would free up ₹22 crore, the highest among the six teams. Punjab Kings follow with ₹14 crore.

Which team will have the least money freed up?

Kolkata Knight Riders. Releasing Rovman Powell and Tim Seifert would free up only about ₹3 crore, which makes a big move like "Project Hardik" very difficult.

How many players can a team retain, and are these release lists official?

Neither is confirmed. These names come from reports, and the franchises haven’t announced anything. The number of retentions this year isn’t confirmed either, though five was discussed as a possibility. The official retention and release lists will settle all of this.
